All Of Our Hands
Spanning a variety of musical styles and genres including Swing-Jazz, Gospel, Americana, Piano Ballad and Traditional Folk, my new album ‘All Of Our Hands’ is a feast of uplifting songs and acoustic instrumentation, featuring a wide range of western and world instruments, gospel singers & choirs, live band recording and sparkling audio production.
Completed at Real World Studios (Peter Gabriel's legendary recording studio), mixed in Los Angeles by renowned sound designer John Hendicott and backed by Arts Council England, this album is a collaborative celebration of life and community.
The album raised over £16,000 from fans through a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com (it was the #1 trending music campaign globally on the platform when launched).
Guest vocalists include Kyla Jade (American gospel singer, finalist on ‘The Voice’ USA), Carmody (London-based vocalist who collaborates with Tom Misch) and gospel choir ‘Soul Of The City’, as part of an international line up of over 100 musicians and singers who contributed…
The Making of the Album
The Crowdfunding Campaign
Right from the start this album has been a collective effort. I needed all of your hands to bring the album into fruition and I am so grateful for the amazing support I received. Here is my initial crowdfunding video which led to donations of over £16,000.
The Recording Journey
I wanted to document the journey of making this album for the fans and crowdfunder backers. Watch this ‘step by step’ journey of how the album was recorded - from demos and rehearsals, recording live with a full band, adding extra instrumentation, through to recording full choirs.
Music Video
After the recording was finished, we filmed a music video in the rainbow-filled, autumnal landscapes of Dartmoor. Friends were invited to take part in the final scenes, shot inside a magical off-grid woodland home owned by the couple in the video. With thanks to the Samsara Collective for capturing the spirit of the song ‘Gypsy Roots’ so beautifully.
Lyric Booklet / Hand Art
The lyric booklet is filled with original artwork created by artists and audiences during an online ‘Album Artwork Challenge’.
Over the course of one month, I used social media to invite followers to draw me a picture of a hand, in whatever style they wished, to collectively represent ‘All Of Our Hands’.
I received a great variety of ‘hand art’ including pen and ink drawings, digital illustrations, children’s pictures, collages, prints and paintings. A selection is shown in this booklet with many more on my website. Thank you to all those that contributed and found inspiration in the album themes.
